Eric and Cinnamon built their home in 2008 in the American Four Square style with many Craftsman features, allowing it to fit with the overall style of the neighborhood. Neighbor and architect Mike Travis assisted the Sullivans with the design. As you enter the home, notice the Ox-Yoke doors, which were handcrafted by Eric’s father, Daryl Sullivan, a master woodworker. Daryl’s work has been published in Woodsmith, Better Homes and Gardens and Fine Woodworking. The senior Sullivan also built many of the Stucky-style furnishings, including the buffet in the dining room, all the wood pieces in the living room and the daughters’ matching bedroom sets.
Eric and Cinnamon like to support local artists and have several works by Holly Black and James Dean. They also collect signed prints from Gary Kelly, a nationally known artist whose mural of authors adorns all the Starbuck’s locations within Barnes and Noble stores. He is a friend of the family and has signed Christmas books for them, which he illustrated. There is also photography taken by Cinnamon displayed in the kitchen and family room area. The family enjoys the screened porch area off the kitchen as it is a great space to entertain in.
Upstairs, the home features three bedrooms and a master suite. The master has a large bathroom with marble features and lighting that highlights the floor at night. There are also balconies off two of the bedrooms providing a scenic view of the street below.
Decorations in the home include two Christmas trees. The indoor tree features ornaments crafted by the Sullivans’ two daughters over the years. They are still deciding on which type of ornament they would like to collect and are torn between crèches and traditional ornaments.
The Sullivan family enjoys the small-town living offered in Decatur, as well as the pedestrian atmosphere. They are very involved in the community and their children’s school and sports activities. The family invites you to visit their screened porch for a holiday beverage and wish everyone a merry Christmas and happy holiday season!
