Scott and Denise Bailey • 152 Vidal Blvd.

Scott and Denise’s home was built in 1949 by the Dillard Family, who had three children – two boys and a girl – just like the Baileys. The Dillards had a family farm and grew plants in the backyard of the house as well; Mr. Dillard was known for his roses. They lived in the house until a few years ago when they both passed away. The Baileys purchased the home from Ken Hughes, who did the renovation.

The home is very livable and the family uses all the space. The floor plan is open yet cozy. The new family/kitchen/breakfast area was designed for entertaining and features a built-in bar with a wine cooler, icemaker and sink. French doors open off this area to one of two large patios with an outdoor fireplace. The chef’s kitchen features stainless steel appliances with custom cabinetry with a built-in bar in the breakfast area.

The home has great storage and plenty of bedrooms for a family of five. The master features large windows overlooking the spacious back yard and the bath features a walk-in slate shower and an oversized jet tub. The homeowners really like the three interior fireplaces. Furniture in the home includes several antique sideboards, armoires and hutches that have been collected over the years.

The Bailey family has a delightful collection of art and they particularly appreciate landscapes and folk art. In the office are two pieces by South Carolina artist Keith Spencer. They visited his farm and had the opportunity to chat with him about his work. Arizona is a favorite place to visit and several art pieces are of the Grand Canyon. The children enjoy art and the youngest even got to select the large red alligator that hangs in his room, at Folk Fest. One of their favorite new additions is a piece by Cornbread that hangs in the kitchen area.

For the holidays, the home is decorated in a traditional manner and focuses on the children. The living room tree is more formal than the tree in the family area, which is trimmed with decorations made by the children. The tree skirt was made by Scott’s great-grandmother
