Chuck and Mary Jane Cantey
240 Mount Vernon Dr.

The home was built in 1947 with two bedrooms and one bath. Chuck and Mary Jane bought it in 1989 and renovated and expanded it in 1993, enlarging the living space from 1,150 to 2,300 square feet.

Mary Jane’s collection of nutcrackers is on display every holiday season, including characters from Dickens’s A Christmas Carol. The collection began with a surprise Christmas gift of the “Tinker” nutcracker to Mary Jane from her parents. It has grown through the years with additional gifts from family and friends.

The Tour of Homes has been an important part of the Canteys’ holiday season for many years. “We look forward to it with anticipation and we always invite friends to join us each year. It is one of the wonderful things that make living in Decatur special. We are honored to be on the tour this year.”
