The Sheafbauers’ bungalow was built in 2007 with green elements that include Geo-loop geothermal heating and air, bio-based soy foam insulation, water-saving low-flow toilets, Energy Star-rated appliances and ceiling fans, low-e argon windows and fiber-cement Nichiha siding.
The home was painted with low-toxic paints. Georgia Elberton granite was used for the foundation. No carpeting was installed in the house.
When a pecan tree had to be taken down during construction, the homeowners had the wood milled and used throughout the house. Notice the pecan mantel, railing, trim, stairs and other built-ins constructed from the tree. Further recycling efforts include the master shower made from stones the homeowners collected from various vacations, and the dining room table made from wood from the original home’s back deck.
Artwork from local artists is displayed throughout. The holiday tree is decorated with ornaments collected from places the Sheafbauers have vacationed.
