Decatur First United Methodist Chapel
318 Sycamore St.
The Romanesque-style chapel, completed in 1899, was built of Stone Mountain granite at a cost of $6,626. The Tiffany window centered above the organ pipes was a gift from a member of the congregation as a memorial to his mother. The transepts were added in 1916. Sunday school space and a choir loft were added in 1927 as well as a kitchen and dining room in the basement. The sanctuary was used as the congregation’s place of worship until January 1967, when the new sanctuary on East Ponce de Leon was opened.
Today the chapel is still used for Sunday morning services. During the week it serves as a preschool. It is also available to rent for weddings.
